Both pasteurized and UHT (Ultra-High Temperature) milk provide numerous nutrients for children. Parents often struggle to choose between these two types of milk, unsure of their differences and which is better. Let’s explore the answer with AVAKids!
What is Pasteurized Milk?
Pasteurized milk is 100% pure fresh milk. After milking, the milk is heat-treated at a low temperature of 90°C (194°F) for 15-30 seconds. This process helps preserve the beneficial bacteria present in the milk. It is then rapidly cooled to 4°C (39°F) and packaged.
Advantages
* Contains only natural cow’s milk, without additives, colorings, etc.
* Because it is made from pure cow’s milk, it has a very fresh, natural taste.
* Contains a full range of nutrients because pasteurization does not cause vitamins and minerals to decompose or be lost.
Disadvantages
* Relatively short shelf life, only about 10 days, whether opened or not.
* More expensive than other types of milk.
* Requires more effort in the selection and processing of raw materials.
* Less convenient because it must be kept refrigerated continuously.
* Prone to safety and hygiene issues if purchased from unreliable brands or unknown origins.

What is UHT Milk?
UHT milk is fresh milk treated at a high temperature of 138-140°C (280-284°F) for 2-4 seconds. This high-temperature treatment eliminates harmful bacteria but also removes beneficial bacteria. The milk is then rapidly cooled and packaged in special sterile packaging.
Advantages
* UHT milk can be stored at room temperature for a long time, from 6 months to 1 year.
* Refrigeration is only required after opening, making it convenient for children to take to school or on trips.
* Because UHT milk can be produced in large quantities and doesn’t require refrigeration, the selling price is lower than pasteurized milk.
Disadvantages
* The high-temperature treatment of UHT milk can cause some vitamin and mineral loss, although this loss is negligible.
* Prone to counterfeiting and poor quality if purchased from unreliable sources, as this type of milk is widely available on the market.

Should You Drink Pasteurized or UHT Milk?
Both pasteurized and UHT milk contain high levels of nutrients and are very beneficial for health. As long as parents choose quality products and use them correctly, they can maximize the nutritional value. Therefore, the choice between the two depends on individual needs and preferences.
If you want to enjoy the pure, original taste of 100% pure cow’s milk, pasteurized milk is an excellent choice. If you prefer more flavor options and longer shelf life, UHT milk is recommended.
